Sky Sports statistician - and big Buffalo Bills fan - Benedict Bermange breaks down the numbers behind Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs' dominance ahead of Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans...
3 - The Chiefs return to the Super Bowl seeking to become the first team to complete a hat-trick of triumphs. Their opponents are the Eagles, who they defeated 38-35 in the Championship game two years ago thanks to Harrison Butker's 27-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining.
7 - The Chiefs have reached the AFC Championship game in all seven seasons since Patrick Mahomes took over as the full-time starting quarterback. That is one shy of the overall record held by Tom Brady's New England Patriots, with eight appearances from the 2011-2018 seasons.
107 - In those seven seasons, the Chiefs have won a total of 107 games, the most by any team in a seven-season stretch in NFL history. 105 of those wins have come with Mahomes under center, another seven-year record:
6 - Mahomes has now won multiple games in six successive postseasons, double the previous record set by Bart Starr, Brett Favre and Tom Brady.
17 - With their victory over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game, Kansas City have now won 17 successive one-score games. It also represents an NFL record, four more than the previous benchmark set by the Patriots from 2003 to 2004.
17 - Mahomes is an incredible 17-3 as a starter in the AFC playoffs. His only two defeats to AFC teams both came in overtime - to Brady's Patriots in the 2018 season and Joe Burrow's Cincinnati Bengals three years later. His other loss in the postseason was also to Brady - in Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Buccaneers, who had home-field advantage. His 17 playoff wins are also the second most by a quarterback in NFL history, behind only Brady's 35.
4 - The Chiefs will try to become the first team in any of the four major American sports to win three straight titles since the Los Angeles Lakers won NBA crowns in the 1999/2000, 2000/01 and 2001/02 seasons. They are also just the fourth team in NFL history to reach as many as three Super Bowls in a row:
5 - Having also reached the Super Bowl in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, they are the first team to play in five Super Bowls over the course of six successive seasons.
3 - With a win in New Orleans, Andy Reid and Mahomes will become just the third head coach-quarterback combination to win as many as four Super Bowls together:
5 - Mahomes is set to become just the third quarterback in NFL history to start in five Super Bowls, behind Brady and John Elway.
29 - Mahomes is also primed to become the first quarterback to start in five Super Bowls before the age of 30.
50 - The Chiefs quarterback has 50 total touchdowns in the playoffs in his NFL career, second behind only Brady's 95 total postseason touchdowns.
9 - Travis Kelce has posted nine career 100-yard receiving games in the playoffs, most in NFL history ahead of the great Jerry Rice.
174 - Kelce's 174 catches in the postseason are the most by any player in NFL history, 151 of which have arrived since Mahomes took over as starter in 2018.
20 - Kelce and Mahomes' 20 touchdown connections in the playoffs are the most by a pass-catch pairing in history, with the tight end's 20 receiving scores in the postseason second only to Rice.
100 - Mahomes holds the record for fastest quarterback to reach 100 career touchdown passes, doing so in just 40 games.
